Minster Veterinary Centre Puppy Packages- The Best Start For Your New Companion
It is important that your new bundle of fluff gets off to the best possible start in life. Preventative healthcare will play a major role in that, alongside diet, lifestyle and surroundings.
Vaccinations are a vital part of preventative health care in all species. We strongly recommend routine vaccination against diseases that pose a genuine risk to the health of your pets. We aim to follow the most accurate and up to date guidelines to keep your pets healthy.
All dogs should be vaccinated against Parvovirus, Distemper, Infectious Hepatitis and Leptosporosis. The kennel cough vaccination provides cover against Bordetella and parainfluenza which is required for entry into some boarding kennels and is recommended if your dog socialises in large groups (e.g. training /agility classes/day care centres).
All dogs require a full booster the first year after their primary course, after which the leptospirosis and kennel cough elements require annual vaccination, with other components boostered every 3rd year.
Parasite control is also vital for the health and well being of both pets and owners. We know that all pets are individuals and risk levels will vary between lifestyles. There are two types of parasites that you need to be aware of; internal and external parasites.
· External parasites
In this region we have a high prevalence of fleas and ticks which can transmit diseases to your animal and irritate them by being present. We highly recommend that you use preventative treatment that kills fleas and ticks quickly to present the spread of disease. We would also recommend that the products you use remain active at high levels for the full duration of treatment.
· Internal parasites
The most common internal parasites locally are round worm and tape worm.
Puppies should be wormed every 2 weeks from 6 weeks to 12 weeks old and then monthly until they are 6 months old.
After this time dogs should be wormed on a regular basis decided by risk. Some will require worming on a monthly basis, while as others may be wormed as little as every 3 months.
At the Minster Veterinary Centre we have designed a primary care package that helps to get your puppy off to a healthy start from 1st vaccination through the the first annual booster 12 months later, while making substantial savings over purchasing the treatments individually.
The Minster Veterinary Centre Puppy package costs £120 (srp £240) and will include;
Primary vaccination course
You will see a vet for all parts of the vaccination course. The vaccination course can be given as two or 3 injections, the first can be from 6 weeks of age as long as the second DHP part is given at 10 weeks old or later.
Kennel cough vaccination
This can be done with any part of the vaccine course depending on circumstance. If necessary this can be done at a separate appointment.
We would advise you to check if you are due to go to puppy classes or kennels as some will require the kennel cough vaccination to be done at least 10 days before.
Worming treatment cover for 12 months
We would always advise that pups are always wormed every 2 weeks until 12 weeks and then monthly until they are 6 months old, from 6 months dogs will either need wormign every 1 month or every 3 months, this can be discussed at the complementary RVN health check at 6 months old.
This package includes a worming tablet to be given at approximately 8 weeks(first 1st vaccine), 10 weeks and 12 weeks (final vaccine) and then doses to be collected monthly until 6 months old, then as decided at the RVN health check until the first annual booster.
We will be requesting that you bring your pup to be weighed for each dose to make sure the dosing is accurate.
Flea and tick treatment cover for 12 months
You will receive monthly flea and tick treatment for 12 months to cover from primary vaccination until the first annual booster.
Free bag of puppy food
