We are a long established independent, client friendly practice in Nottinghamshire with 4
fully functioning surgeries and two branch practices. We have a bustling and friendly work
place with a fantastic team attitude that we endeavour to prioritise.
We have a small animal position available. Ideally the position is full time but part time
hours will definitely be considered. No mandatory out of hours work but some daytime
weekend work on a rota basis (1 in 5). The weekend consists of a total of 11.5 hours over
Saturday and Sunday which are compensated with 2 full days rota’d off in the following
week. Opportunity to do out of hours on call work if desired.
We have a great mix of experience with certificate holders, vets currently studying for
certificates and several of us with 8-15 years experience who are happy with the shorter
titles! We also have a very enthusiastic mixed team who cover the on call work currently with
plans of 24 hour vet care at the Newark practice in the immediate future.
We are ideally looking for a candidate who can stand on their own two feet but no specific
need for sole charge at a surgical site.
As you should expect from any good employer we are looking for people to fit in to a
friendly and helpful team dynamic, who can be an asset to the practice while progressing both
personally and professionally while enjoying a team atmosphere.
We encourage clinical freedom and allow staff to find a role or niche they enjoy within the
practice and all of our positions have the flexibility to adapt to areas of clinical interest and
we expect roles to evolve over time.
As a practice we like to be progressive in our approach to diagnostics and as such have a very
good range of diagnostic equipment with an appetite for investing in equipment that will be
utilised.
For the small animal side we have; digital x-ray with dental xray, digital
endoscope/rhinoscope, ultrasound, ECG, suction, multiparameter monitors and recently
upgraded Idexx lab equipment at all branches alongside an in house microbiology lab run
through Southwell. We can perform in house orthopaedics including TPLO, have an in house
cardiologist and an ophthalmologist plus many other fantastic vets!
We encourage relevant CPD with a focus on areas of personal improvement and interest. We
have a standard 5 days of CPD allowance and study for certificates is welcomed and funded.
We have returned to booking optional CPD evenings at local pubs with great food to keep
you up to date with new products, the days of trying to squeeze in lunch and learns are gone!
Generous package based on experience and role can include; house, car, phones, broadband,
RCVS registration, society membership and VDS cover.
If you are undecided as to whether the time is right for a change why not come and spend a
day with us to meet the team and find out what working with Minster Veterinary Centre is
really like.

Testimonial
I worked at Minster Vets for nearly 4 years. I started 2 weeks before the Covid-19 national lockdown in 2020 so they would have been entitled not to keep me on. However they made space for me and the support this practice gave all staff during those times was impeccable.
That trend has continued through my time at Minster and is part of what makes the practice special. They have gone above and beyond to be flexible if I’ve needed time off at short notice. They have supported me when things haven’t gone to plan. They will never ‘throw you under the bus’ if things go wrong. They even let me come in to work remotely in my other job when my laptop wouldn’t work at home! They encourage staff to find their niche in whichever area of veterinary medicine they are drawn to.
There are some things that you can assess during a tour of the practice or in an interview – like equipment, structure of the day, salary, holiday etc. Of course these aspects are really important and form part of the decision making process when considering a new role. However what you may not be able to get a sense of is the ethos of a practice. What I’d like this testimonial to convey is that the moral code of Minster Vets is absolutely where it should be for both clients and staff and if I come back to general practice I wouldn’t want to work anywhere else.
